Hair

In keeping with the traditions of classical ballet, girls must wear hair away from the face and secured tightly on the back of the head for all classes. This may be achieved with a bun or french twist. With the exception of the 3 and 4 year olds, this applies to all levels, all the time.

Shoes

Purchase full-soled pink leather ballet slippers from a dance specialty store. The shoes sold in discount stores or regular shoe stores often use inferior materials and are not suitable for ballet. We recommend Capezio, Bloch, or So Danca. You must take your child to the store to be fitted. Ballet slipper sizing is unique. Slippers should not be bought with room to grow. Elastics should be sewn on slippers and drawstrings should be knotted, tied in a bow, and tucked in.
Once a student is put on pointe, they may wear split soled and/or canvas shoes.
Students who wear tights that match their skin tone should purchase or dye slippers and pointe shoes to match as well.

We suggest drawstring free slippers for our youngest students. This includes So Danca Style SD55C, Capezio Lily Style, or Eurotard Passé.

Tights

Younger students (Storybook, Basics A, Basics B, Ballet 1A and Ballet 1B) should wear the recommended tights in ballet pink or may wear crew cut white socks with bare legs. Tights will be required for performances.
Older students (Ballet 2A and up) should wear tights that are either ballet pink or skin toned.
For students wishing to wear tights that match their natural skin tone, we recommend Ballet Cafe Naturals. Swatches of tight colors are available at the desk. Slippers and pointe shoes should be purchased or dyed to match.
Please check throughout the year for the need to purchase larger sizes as your child grows.

Sweaters

During cold weather, younger students may wear a tight fitting wrap style ballet sweater. Eurotard 72523C or Body Wrappers 3201 are good choices. For Storybook through Ballet IB, please wear pink. For Ballet IIA and up, please wear black.

Jewelry

Small earrings may be worn but no other jewelry is allowed.
